I always thought it was funny how Linus was generally the most down-to-earth, reasonable, philosophical member of the Peanuts crowd, yet he was the one with the irrational need for a security blanket and the completely baseless faith in the Great Pumpkin. And I love how many people interpret Linus's belief in the Great Pumpkin as a parody of evangelism, or as a metaphor for the struggle of those whose beliefs are in the minority, or as symbolic of man's existential dilemmas, while Schulz just thought it was funny to have a kid who confused Halloween and Christmas.
