When I was growing up in central Jersey, New York City was The City. Even now, living in Baltimore, it still is (in a weird way, even more so.) I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Baltimore, but it can't compare. Even DC, which is much more of a city than Baltimore, isn't the same. No matter where you live, New York is the city by which all others are measured.
