Udvar-Hazy Center, Chantilly, VA - July 23, 2004
On July 1, 1931, Wiley Post and his navigator Harold Gatty completed the first flight around the world by a lone aircraft in 8 days, 15 hours, and 51 minutes, breaking the circumnavigation speed record previously held by the Graf Zepplin. Two years later, Wiley became the first person to fly around the world solo, breaking his previous speed record by a good 21 hours, once again in the Winnie Mae.
