The National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall only has enough space for a small (but very excellent) portion of the Smithsonian's aviation and space collection, so in December 2003 they opened the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, on the grounds of Dulles Airport to house all the rest. And believe me, they've got a lot.
