Three Mile Island, PA - June 15, 2004

On March 28, 1979, the nuclear reactor in Three Mile Island Unit 2 nuclear power plant suffered a partial core meltdown. There were no reported injuries or fatalities, but it was a public relations disaster and led to sweeping reforms in many areas of power plant operations.  Unit 2 was never reactivated.
